These Walls – A street art initiative in Dublin 8
The community focused art project will launch on Culture Night. Founded and funded by the Guinness Storehouse in its landmark 25th year, These Walls is a collaborative partnership with Dublin City Council, the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) and The Digital Hub.
Launching on Culture Night 2025 with an immersive, artistic spectacle at the Guinness Storehouse, These Walls will unfold as a multi-phase project, with future phases rooted in deep community engagement and co-creation.
Phase One of These Walls will see bold new public artwork unveiled on building at The Digital Hub along Thomas Street, created by artists Deirdre Breen and Owen de Forge.
Crane Street and Market Street will also be transformed with works by artists Alice Rekab, Venus Patel, Thaís Muniz, and Farouk Alao, who were commissioned in collaboration with the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA). Each artist has created personal and meaningful site-responsive artwork inspired by their own connections to Dublin 8.
On Culture Night, audiences are invited to step into this landmark exhibition set within the Storehouse’s striking industrial setting and immerse themselves in an evocative portrait of Dublin 8 that explores memory and place through light, sound, and form.
Deirdre Breen’s abstract compositions respond to the area’s evolving architecture and layered histories, while Owen de Forge’s figurative works capture the neighbourhood’s social life through playful characters and unconventional canvases. The exhibition is further enhanced by a specially commissioned soundscape by Saoirse Miller and Wastefellow, together with live contemporary dance by Rachel Ní Bhraonáin and Emily Kilkenny Roddy.
As a further celebration of the area, Dublin 8 Korean restaurant Space Jaru will pop up with a limited edition, Guinness inspired menu. Guests can enjoy a complimentary Guinness or Guinness 00 while taking in the spectacular city skyline from the Gravity Bar.
These Walls phase one artworks along Thomas St, Crane St and Market St will be unveiled in time for Culture Night on the 19th of September.
Complimentary tickets for the immersive Culture Night experience at the Guinness Storehouse running from 8:30pm – 11:30pm will be available on the 1st of September at 12pm from culturenight.ie.
Separately, a specially commissioned walking tour will take place on Culture Night to explore the new work commissioned for These Walls and Guinness’s legacy of supporting public art. The walking tour will be available at 5:30pm and 7:00pm, commencing at St Catherine’s Church. Limited spots available from culturenight.ie.
