Creative Coding in the Classroom is a dynamic workshop designed to spark curiosity about computer science among primary school students. Delivered directly in Dublin 8 classrooms, this engaging, beginner-level session introduces children to the core concepts of coding in an approachable and practical way. No prior experience is needed, and all activities are tailored to suit pupils from 3rd to 6th class using your school’s tablets, Chromebooks, or laptops.

The 90-minute workshop starts with a short introduction to The Digital Hub and some simple computer science terms. Students take part in an interactive debugging challenge on the whiteboard before getting hands-on, working solo or in pairs to create a simple arcade game using Microsoft MakeCode Arcade. As soon as their games take shape, participants are encouraged to unleash their creativity by adding music, editing graphics or tinkering with game logic to make their projects unique.

Every child receives a certificate and sticker to celebrate their achievements, and all tools used are freely available for students to continue their coding journey at home or in school. Creative Coding in the Classroom aims to make digital skills accessible and fun, giving every child the confidence to explore the world of technology.
