On these student-led projects, classes from local primary schools are invited to create their own history podcast.
Over a number of weeks, students visit The Digital Hub to learn about the world of podcasting with comedy and children’s writer Aidan Fitzmaurice. They also work with Dublin City Historian in Residence for Children Dervilia Roche, going on local history walks and taking part in research sessions based around the parts of their local history that interest them the most. Working in groups, they prepare and record a fun and fact-filled podcast about local history, including their own theme songs and funny fake ads.
So far this programme has been run with 6th class in South City Community National School, 4th class in St Catherine’s National School, and 5th class in Scoil Treasa Naofa.
Listen back to one of our previous podcasts, made by St Catherine’s NS here or find out more about the process of making our podcast with South City CNS in one of the chapters of History on your Doorstep Volume 7.
The history podcast programme is facilitated by comedy and children’s writer Aidan Fitzmaurice, and Dublin’s Historian in Residence for Children, Dervilia Roche.
Dublin City Historians in Residence programme is created by Dublin City Libraries, and is delivered in partnership with Dublin City Council Culture Company.
