Dublin Camera Club Marks 80 Years of Irish Photography
One of Ireland’s oldest clubs and the largest camera club in Ireland, Dublin Camera Club, marks its 80th anniversary this summer. Founded in 1946, the club hosted its first exhibition of members’ work the same year and has continued this tradition ever since.
Dublin Camera Club is a voluntary organisation run by its members, for its members. There are over 200 participants in Dublin Camera Club, ranging in age from those in their 20s to 90s. The vast majority of members are from Dublin, with some participating via Zoom from counties Wicklow, Wexford and Waterford.
Each year, the members’ work is displayed at the Dublin Camera Club exhibition of photographs in dlr LexIcon, Dun Laoghaire. This will take place from Tuesday 4 August to Friday 28 August. Over 900 submissions were received for potential inclusion in the members’ exhibition showing the breadth of talent of the club members and their dedication to photography.
Members of Dublin Camera Club meet on Tuesdays at The Digital Hub campus, availing of a year-round programme of lectures and workshops.
Regular workshops give members an opportunity to meet with other creatives and learn from guest speakers from other camera clubs in Ireland and overseas. Well known photographic artists Seán Hillen and Norman Stevenson recently delivered presentations to the members.
Seán Hillen presented his work from his beginnings in Northern Ireland through to his composite images and his most recent work. Norman Stevensen showcased a photographic journey from his early photography days to more recent work, some of which was exhibited in different galleries, including the RHA (Royal Hiberian Academy) Annual Exhibition.
New members are always welcome, including any budding photographers. Dublin Camera Club will host a nine-week course in photography for beginners commencing on Wednesday, 23 September 2026 at The Digital Hub. Registration is now open on the Dublin Camera Club website, www.dublincameraclub.ie.
